On 10 April 2026<\/strong>, the oncNGS consortium held its final event in Brussels, marking the conclusion of the Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) project and bringing together key actors involved in the initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hosted at the Pullman Hotel, the event gathered clinicians, researchers, policymakers, procurement experts, and the contractors who developed the solutions within the PCP<\/strong>, alongside representatives of the European Commission. Discussions focused on how innovation procurement can support the uptake of advanced diagnostic technologies in healthcare systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From technical results to clinical value<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The morning session<\/strong> was dedicated to the technical foundations and clinical relevance of the oncNGS PCP. The two contractors that reached the final phase of the procurement process presented their solutions, developed to address unmet needs in cancer diagnostics through circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA)-based Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)<\/strong> approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These presentations highlighted the progress achieved during the project and opened discussions on performance, clinical utility, and remaining challenges related to scalability, interoperability, and regulatory readiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From procurement to implementation: a shared discussion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The afternoon session<\/strong> broadened the perspective, focusing on Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) and Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI) as tools to support the adoption of innovative solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A round table discussion brought together different perspectives to reflect on the conditions needed to move from R&D procurement to real-world implementation. Exchanges addressed, among others, the alignment between regulatory frameworks and procurement pathways, the need for predictability for innovators, and the challenges of scaling solutions across healthcare systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking ahead<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The event provided an opportunity to take stock of the oncNGS journey and to discuss next steps towards the sustainable integration of precision diagnostics into healthcare systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the project comes to a close, the discussions highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between public buyers, innovators, and policymakers to ensure that promising solutions can effectively reach clinical practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
